Portrush

Situated at the heart of the resort town of Portrush the refurbished Antrim Gardens have been jointly funded by the Interreg IIIA programme and Coleraine Borough Council.

Once the walled Gardens of the former Northern Counties hotel, the gardens are now in the public domain for all to enjoy.  The scheme designed by Mouncey Westbury has kept the original levels of the hotel garden. A central walkway through the gardens leads to a carved brick sculpture with glazed ceramic elements that depict aspects of Portrush history.  This piece of public art is reminiscent of a watch tower and has interpretative panels providing detail on local history and the maritime heritage of the area.

This and projects like it are vital for the long term sustainable regeneration of Portrush.  Improved public realm makes the townscape a more pleasant experience for a visitor, promotes confidence in the private sector and encourages new investment in the tourism and hospitality sector, the life blood for the town’s economy.
