Glenarm
Larne Borough Council’s Seaside Town Project is based in Glenarm on the Antrim Coast. Glenarm is the oldest village in the famous nine glens of Antrim and has always had a long maritime history, centred on the picturesque limestone harbour at the entrance to the village.
The Glenarm project, a new pedestrian bridge, spans the Glenarm River, joining car parking, playground, beach and visitor amenities with the harbour area and providing a pedestrian link to the centre of the village. The bridge is floodlit at night, highlighting the impressive architecture of nearby Glenarm Estate and the parish church. In the future the project will be complemented by further works around the harbour area and by improved coach parking in the area.
The project enhances Glenarm’s maritime heritage and tourism potential as a key settlement on the Causeway Coastal Touring Route. The project is key to attracting more day visitors to stay longer in Glenarm and enjoy the villages other attractions such as the Walled Garden and Tea Rooms, Goldsmiths and Forest.
